Dr. Robert “Bobby” Calhoun grew up in Sparta, North Carolina. He joined the Taylor Rehab team in June, 2020. He recently returned to North Carolina from California after completing a Residency and Fellowship program in Orthopedic Manual Therapy. He has always been involved in sports and athletics as a multi-sport athlete and developed a love for strength and conditioning. Powerlifting is his life-long hobby. He appreciates the unique blend of physical therapy, human biomechanics, and exercise that goes into the process of strength training.
He earned of Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, then graduated with a Doctor in Physical Therapy from Elon University. Afterwards, he completed a Residency and Fellowship through the Ola Grimsby Institute focused in Orthopedic Manual Therapy, attaining the title of Fellow designated by the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. He specializes in Orthopedic Manual & Sports Physical Therapy focusing on non-operative and post-operative musculoskeletal rehabilitation of orthopedic and sports injuries of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, ankle, spine and TMJ dysfunction. His clinical practice focuses on using advanced manual therapy training in spinal and extremity manipulation and mobilization. With a background in strength training and conditioning, along with sports performance cultivation, he has expertise in enhancing individual needs utilizing advanced evaluative screening, functional movement screening (FMS), & Y balance test screening for participation in all athletic endeavors for the injured athlete. He has a unique background in the science of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training, a ground-breaking method for enhancing muscular strength and hypertrophy for those in rehabilitation and fitness.
Bobby takes great satisfaction in seeing a client accomplish a goal and knowing he has provided someone with the tools to succeed when they otherwise thought they could not. When someone achieves something that they thought impossible or out of reach, this is what makes Bobby excited about his profession.
